Autumn brings a change of pace. The excitement and busyness of summer has been swept away by the cool wind and rain. As the temperature drops and we begin to spend more time indoors, adding some seasonal colours and textures to the home can help make the transition easier. The bed is the centrepiece of the bedroom. I love colours like amber, copper, dark red, and chestnut brown in natural textures (linen or cotton) for a simple, calming look. Textures from nature can help add a relaxing, tactile reminder of the new season. Rather than using fresh flowers that become increasingly scarce during fall and winter (and are often shipped from afar), why not use dried plants to decorate your home? Bouquets of dried foxtail, wheat, and oats not only look rustic and homely, but serve as a reminder of the harvest season and the beauty it brings.
